Despite Calls for Change, NRA Still Against Gun Restrictions

President Obama has vowed in press conferences after the Aurora, Colo., attack that gun control needs to become a prioritized issue in the United States.  He has called for further programs to protect and educate youth, as well as greater regulations throughout the country on who can purchase or possess a firearm.

One group opposed to tighter regulations is the National Rifle Association; it argues that stricter gun regulations or taking away firearms would be a violation of our second
amendment right.

The incident in Aurora shocked the nation and reminded us just how vulnerable we can be when attacks like these happen.  It was a flashback to the Virginia Tech campus shootings in 2007, and more notably, the Columbine High School shootings that took place mere miles away from Aurora.  Despite these tragedies, tighter gun restrictions have yet
to take hold.
