ATLANTA — Videography is a growing career choice that provides an individual the ability to express their artistry and allows them to work with different companies to create different video projects for promotion of business.
Videography is booming in the Atlanta due to the number of small businesses from local bars to major companies such as Coca-Cola Co..
Videography includes different subsections of video production genres. Short-form video is the most popular due to its versatility. Short-form video is used for the promotion purpose for Internet showcasing and posting, according to fastcompany.com.
“Every day I wake up, and I live the dream,” said Neil Dearman.
Dearman, 27, is an established videographer who owns both a Canon 7D and a Red Epic. Both cameras are top of the line. According to Dearman, his equipment has the ability to film a major motion picture in his backyard.
Dearman began his career early at Kennesaw Mountain High School, where he eventually set his goal to become a videographer. After attending Chattahoochee Technical College, he began freelancing with many struggles but eventually found his niche.
According to Dearman, the key to becoming a successful videographer is networking. Networking will allow a videographer to gain more clients who need work and afterward can spread the word of mouth to different clients that they know.
Coca-Cola, McLaren, Red Bull are some of the companies that Dearman has worked for within the past few years of his career. Opportunities like those have allowed him to make enough money as a videographer to invest in more equipment.
Steven Rodriguez, 24, is a current freelance videographer who chose this career path five years ago.
Rodriguez has worked with many different musical artists and currently works with Crisp Video Group along with several other clients.
“I chose to do what I love, every day for the rest of my life, when I chose videography,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez uses a Canon 7D as his camera, along with different editing software.
Rodriguez edits his work with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects. Both programs allow his work to give off a professional appearance.
Videography is not a word in most dictionaries. Currently it is a growing career choice for many aspiring artists today. Videography allows individuals to explore the growing field of motion photography and inspires many people to make different choices according to their vision.
Videographers have the opportunity to work in different fields of work from marketing to motion pictures.
Most videographers chose to do the entire process of pre-production, filming and editing by themselves or with one other person. This allows videographers to gain massive amounts of experience.
Videographers tend to make in the $30,000 to $100,000 per year in the Atlanta metro area, according to Salary1.com. Videographers are mostly used by small businesses for marking purposes to reach more of the younger demographic on social media websites such as YouTube or Facebook.
“Videography can be considered by others what I do, but to me it is much more,” said Dearman.
