WOODSTOCK, Ga. — Paul Carey grew up in New Jersey playing golf with his dad. After playing on both his high school and college team, Carey decided to enter golf as a profession.
He was, however, restricted to working only eight to nine months out of the year because of the cold, northern weather so he moved down South closer to his family to continue his career where he became the head golf pro at Towne Lake Hills Golf Club.
Carey is now the person you go to if you have any questions about Towne Lake Hills Golf Club, which offers many accommodations from its well-designed course to its pro shop and the people who work there.
Towne Lake Hills is just one of the many neighborhood communities inside Towne Lake in Woodstock. The golf course was designed by Arthur Hills in 1994. It is an 18-hole, par 72 course that reaches a total yardage of 6,784 yards from the championship tees. The fairways are made up of Bermuda grass and the greens are bentgrass.
Cameron Huddo has worked at the golf course for 10 years, now works as a manager for the cart staff and knows all about the course.
“It’s a hilly golf course. It’s easy if you hit it straight in the fairway,” Huddo said. “It’s very narrow, but other than that, it’s pretty short and a good, fun course.”

Driving Range/Warm-up Area
Like any other golf course, Towne Lake Hills Golf Club offers the opportunity for golfers to warm up before they actually go out onto the golf course. For just $8, anyone can step out onto the range and hit warm-up balls, whether it’s before a tee time or if it’s just for practice.
The putting green is open to all members and guests with no charge. The chipping area is there but separate from the putting green in order to avoid duff marks on the clean-cut fringe around the putting green.
Towne Lake Hills Golf Club has golf pros that run the pro shop, give lessons and provide information for the golf course.
Carey has been the head pro at Towne Lake Hills for 15 years.
While also holding the position as club manager, Carey is the one to go to if you have any questions about membership, applications for working there, or coordinating events, such as tournament and outings.
“We try to balance between being a membership golf course and in the customer service aspect or running a golf course,” Carey said. “We’re also a daily fee golf course so at the end of the day we’re here to make money. So you have a good balance and you get a little bit of everything with that.”
The club also has a teaching pro, Bill Murchison, who provides lessons for beginners who want to learn the game of golf and basic fundamentals or more advanced players who want to extend their skill in the game.
Pro Shop and Brands
The Pro shop for Towne Lake Hills is conveniently located in the clubhouse right next to the bar and grill. There, one can set up tee times, ask the pros and assistance about membership prices, and browse around for different clubs, apparel, and merchandise.
Most pro shops have certain types of brands that they push to sell. Towne Lake Hills is no exception.
One of the major brands of golf shoes that is sold is Footjoy, and Towne Lake Hills’ pro shop uses Footjoy over most shoe brands.
For golf clubs, the shop is very big on pushing Nike brand clubs. Titleist brand golf balls take up most of the shelves when it comes to selling golf balls.
Finally, for shirts, outerwear, and pants, the shop sells Under Armour as its main brand. For more information about the pro shop at Towne Lake Hills, click here.
Bar and Grill Prices
One feature that every golf course should have is food. In Towne Lake Hills’ case, it is a stand-alone restaurant inside the clubhouse called Featherstone’s Grille, which got a great review from the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
The restaurant is open for golfers after their rounds, but they also allow for catering and banquets, such as wedding receptions. It offers a breakfast buffet, brunch menu, and a buffet dinner, as well. Food includes salads, sandwiches, beef, pork, seafood, poultry, vegetable sides, desserts and adult beverages.
Allie Brown works at the restaurant and recommends her favorite menu item.
“One of my favorite menu items is ‘The Wedge,’” Brown said. “It’s a salad with bacon and tomatoes and onions all over it. It’s a pretty big salad, it’s a good meal and it’s healthy.”

Events at Towne Lake Hills Golf Club
The clubhouse allows itself to be open for people to come in and hold events, whether it’s for a wedding or a golf tournament.
“We hold some weddings and we’ve got a bunch of outings,” Huddo said. “We actually have Kennesaw, their club team, comes up here and practices and they go out and play.”
Along with allowing the club team from Kennesaw State University to come up and play, Towne Lake Hills also lets high school teams come in to practice and play. The outings that it holds are sponsored by restaurants, businesses, other schools, and charity organizations. However, it makes sure that it will still have room to put on member tournaments for the paying club members.
