Lacrosse Takes Over Kennesaw State University

KENNESAW, Ga. — The fastest growing sport in the United States made an impact at Kennesaw State University with the third annual Cobb County Classic Lacrosse Series at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Fans travelled from as far as Long Island to watch top tiered lacrosse teams compete on Georgia grass Feb. 13 and 20. Georgetown University, ranked 14th, fell to No. 1 Notre Dame University and No. 2 University of Denver clinched a close win against number three Duke University.

“The Cobb County Classic is a neat event and it gets bigger and better with every year,” said Kenyatta Kinloch, marketing lead for Fifth Third Bank Stadium. “It’s an amazing opportunity to bring the lacrosse community from all over Georgia to KSU and have the best teams in the nation come play here.”

The Night Owl Productions staff at Fifth Third Bank Stadium promoted the event and hosted patrons from all over the nation. Everyone in the student-run company was on site at the Cobb County Classic.

“To facilitate these great teams means that we need all hands on deck from Marty, our GM, all the way down to crew call, our event-day-only staff, to work as ticket scanners and parking ambassadors,” said Kinloch.

The event generated a generous profit for both Fifth Third Bank Stadium and LB3 Lacrosse, the official promoter of the Cobb County Classic, and created an avenue for lacrosse fans in the future.

“We raised a little over $25,000 from the Cobb County Classic,” said Fifth Third Bank box office assistant Steven Moser. “The revenue is always fun, but nothing beats watching and learning about such a rapidly growing sport. I can’t wait to see the turnout for the Atlanta Blaze or ACC Championship this April.”

Fifth Third Bank Stadium is home to the Atlanta Blaze, Georgia’s newest professional lacrosse team. The team will open up its inaugural season on April 13. Many local players were drafted to be part of the Atlanta Blaze its beginning season.

The NCAA Atlantic Coast Conference Championship will be from April 29 to May 1 and will bring some of the biggest names in college lacrosse to Kennesaw, Ga.
